First Visit

Our first visit is a hole in one!

Getting to know Dr. Michael will be a fun and enjoyable experience for you, your child, and us. We will review your child’s history, and make sure you are comfortable with our procedures and staff. Below are several questions that you may have before your first visit.

Click on a question!

  • What should I bring to my first visit?

On your first visit to our office, please bring your insurance card and our First Visit Packet already completed.

Your insurance determines your deductible.  Any amount not covered by your insurance will be due that day.

  • Do you accept insurance?

We accept most insurance plans and as a courtesy, we will submit your insurance claim for you.

The portion that is not covered by the insurance company is your responsibility and due at the time of service. If payment is not met in full at time of services, then a statement will be sent to you and will reflect a service fee.

It is a benefit to you to know and understand what your insurance benefits are, including deductibles

and co-pays. Regrettably, we do not dictate insurance policies and can only work with them. We will make every effort to help you understand what your coverages are.

  • What can I expect to pay for my
    child’s visit?

Payment is due at the time services are rendered. If you have dental insurance we will accept payment from your insurance company.  Insurance usually only pays a portion of the total cost.  Since this portion can vary greatly we can only give you an estimate. This means that even after your insurance has paid an additional payment by you may be required or you may receive a refund if there is an overpayment. For your convenience we accept cash, check, Mastercard or Visa.

  • My child may be nervous.

    How can you help?

It is very normal for a child to feel nervous or anxious regarding their first visit.  It is important for parents to refrain from using any words that cause unnecessary fear such as needle or drill. Our staff is experienced in dealing with children and reducing anxiety.  They take the time to explain treatments and equipment in a positive and pleasant manner.  Our staff members choose to work in our office because they enjoy working with children. Our promise is to go the extra mile to make you smile.

  • We have several children and scheduling is important to us. Do you run on time, and will you see all my children at once?

Seeing several children in one family at the same time is never a problem for our staff.  We know that our parents have busy schedules, and we do our best to stay on schedule at all times.

Our average wait time for patients to be seen is less than 1 minute!

Why choose a pediatric dentist?

A Pediatric Dentist, like Dr. Wharton-Palmer, is a specialist dedicated to the oral health of children and the monitoring of their facial growth and development. Our office is designed for treating children from infancy through adolescence, as well as the medically and the physically compromised. In our opinion, taking your child to see a pediatric dental specialist is as important as taking them to see a pediatrician.
